Bridging gaps
Understanding the why behind headline figures
In 2020-2021, Scotland’s reconviction rate (the percentage of people reconvicted within a year) was almost 27%. While there are many individual reasons and stories behind this, there are gaps in support which can play a significant role.
Our work involves making people aware of what support is available to them before their sentences end and once they’re ready to start a new life. Not knowing who to turn to for vital help can be confusing and frustrating.
Breaking cycles through support
People with convictions have a range of support needs, which can include accessing mental health services and help with addictions to alcohol and drugs. We can give them the information they need in their local area and support them at every stage.
Our services also create vital links between people and social workers, job centres and other departments so they can feel more confident communicating their feelings and rights
